Building Success for New Teachers of Science: A NNECN Center New Teacher Conference
February 16 Harborside Sheraton- Portsmouth, NH
March 9 Samoset Resort- Rockport, Maine

New middle and high school science teachers from Maine and New Hampshire gathered in their respective states to take part in a one-day conference designed especially for the beginning science teacher. Participants were introduced to and had the opportunity to experience a number of instructional strategies, grounded in research that they could readily take back and use in their own classrooms. Participants had the opportunity to examine practice through observation, be introduced to and use instructional scaffolds, and examine student thinking using a variety of formative assessment probes. The conference provided an opportunity for teachers new to the profession to network and establish connections to national, regional, and statewide support networks and organizations.

FYI: participant numbers:
Maine = 46
New Hampshire = 53
